Consoles Outdated At Launch

Cod-Ghosts

I keep reading news articles popping up that basically say that next-gen games are going to be inferior to the PC versions at launch. This is a bit disappointing, as usually when we get new consoles they keep pace with the PC for at least a year or two. However it looks like that is not the case this time, and they will seem outdated at day one. We already have Infinity Ward stating that the PC version of Ghosts will be better due to a separate set of higher quality assets for the PC. “PC is taking a different tack from previous games [in the series,]” executive producer Mark Rubin told Kotaku. Where older Infinity Ward CoDs shared assets between PC and console, this time around, things will be different. Now, PC has its own set of assets,” Rubin says. “It’s going to look better than any Call of Duty we’ve ever made on PC.” I have also read similar reports that Battlefield 4 does not look so great on the PS4.

Now we have Ubisoft announcing that will see their best games enhanced with PC-exclusive effects and features. So far they have confirmed that Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and Watch Dogs will get the special treatment on PC. These features include support for TXAA, HBAO+, SLI support, and higher resolution assets.

It looks like if you want a true next gen experience, you are better off skipping the consoles this time around and building a nice PC.

The Humble Origin Bundle

It has been a while since I last posted about a Humble Bundle. Most people know about them by now, so I figured why bother. However, the latest one is such a great deal that I felt the need to post about it. Its also worth mentioning that while it is called the Origin Bundle, they do provide Steam keys for Dead Space, Burnout Paradise, Crysis 2, Medal of Honor, and Mirrors Edge. Battlefield 3, Dead Space 3, and Sims 3 is Origin only.
