Minecraft Server: Travelportals

TravelPortals has been added to the Minecraft server.

Portals are 3×3, and consist of 6 pieces of obsidian, a door, and a redstone torch for the center. From above, the portal looks like this:

n o n
o R o
n D n

o is a stack of two obsidian blocks, D is a door, and R is a redstone torch. n can be any block or air. It does not matter. After you have constructed the frame, place a redstone torch at the bottom. It should tell you that you have created a portal, and fill up with water.

After this, just give the portal a name, and give it the name of another portal for the destination and you’re set. As long as the destination portal exists, walking into it will take you straight there. For help in-game, type /portal help.

/portal name [name] sets the name of the portal in front of you.
/portal warp [name] sets the name of the portal that the portal in front of you warps to.
/portal info gives basic information about the portal in front of you.

Valve’s Steam Controller Demonstration

Valve has posted a video demonstration of their Steam Controller prototype. I have to say that I am pretty impressed with the level of accuracy that is shown. It looks like something that could get pretty close to mouse level accuracy with practice.

Here’s a quick look at some games being played with the prototype version of the Steam Controller — the same version that we’ll be shipping to 300 Steam users later this year. We’ll post more demonstrations like this soon, including footage of some other game developers using the controller to play their own games.

Battlefield 4 Beta on Xbox 360

vlcsnap-2013-10-05-15h01m27s39

Battlefield 4 Beta footage on Xbox 360. This game looks absolutely terrible on the console. Horrible low resolution texture quality, tons of pop-in, and enough aliasing on everything to give me a minor headache. At least the frame rate seems reasonably stable. Still, avoid at all costs if you can and sick to the PC if you can.

Battlefield 4 Beta Released

bf4 2013-10-01 22-30-59-32

The Battlefield 4 beta is now out for everyone. Since it is a beta, it is a bit buggy and has some performance issues, but I am still finding it a lot of fun. Check out the video below which was recorded as some of my friends and I played for the first time. Hopefully the final release performs a bit better, as I don’t really feel like upgrading my CPU again.

If it looks like fun, you can download the beta here. Then check out this video below while it downloads to learn about what is available in the beta.
