System Shock 2 & Thief 2 Get Unofficial Patches

Well these patches seem to have come out of nowhere. Looking at the patch notes, it makes me wonder if whoever made this had access to the source code for the engine. Whoever did it, I thank you!

The patch has made some massive improvements for System Shock 2. For example, more resolution options have been added, the video codec has been replaced with FFmpeg decoder (so the videos always work now), and we have EAX audio back. This is only the tip of the iceberg though. Check the patch notes below.

This is an unofficial patch for Thief II: The Metal Age (T2) which updates the game from v1.18 to
v1.19, providing improved support for modern hardware and correcting many known bugs. T2 can be
purchased digitally from GOG (www.gog.com) and Steam (store.steampowered.com). If you prefer a
boxed copy, it can usually be found on Mastertronic and Amazon (or similar).

Black Mesa: Source Released

Black Mesa: Source, the Half-Life 1 remake, has been released. Well, sort of. The release today includes their re-envisioning of Half-Life all the way up to the Lambda Core. The Black Mesa: Source team believes this is a great way to provide a complete-feeling 8-10 hour experience with a solid ending, make their fans happy and help them make the best overall game possible. They are still working hard on Xen and BMDM.

NS2 Match Casting

With NS2 finally on Steam for pre-order, release has to be right around the corner. However, the fact that the game is not out yet has not stopped clans from competing in matches. It seems like every week there are a few new matches up on YouTube to watch. The of the casters I tend to watch are NS2HD and blindNS. NS2HD is casted by Hugh from Unknown Worlds, while blindNS has been casting original NS matches for a long time now. I personally prefer blindNs’s casting style, but they both do a good job.

Here are two matches from recent NS2 builds. The game changes a lot in the beta, but the most recently build has been one of the most solid in terms of balance.
