id software announced that Doom 4 is officially in development today, and they are now hiring to expand their internal team. “DOOM is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to Earth,” said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. “It’s critical for id Software to have the best creative minds in-house to develop games that meet the standards synonymous with our titles.”
No details were given about the project, but I would assume it will be running on id Tech 5, which is the engine powering Rage (also in development at id software). Since id Tech 5 was designed as a multiplatform engine, I would expect Doom 4 to eventually show up on all major platforms (PC, Mac, Xbox 360, & PS3).
